What is a Media Analyzer

A media analyzer is used to perform various quality tests on discs.

A good Analyzer system with analyze CD, CD-R, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W written or blank media.

The main purpose of the analyzer is to validate written media quality and determine product palayabilty.

Some of the things a Media Analyzer will look for are:

• PI Error
• PI Sum 8 Error
• PI Failures
• PI Byte Failures
• PO Failures
• BLER, E-11, E-21, E-31, BERL, E12, E22,
• Uncorrectables
• Unrecoverables

These are all values the are held on the disc that can be tested against to determine the quality grade of a disc that has been written to or is blank. Analyzing blank media is a good method for determining the grade of media your actually using. If you detect a lot of errors on the blank discs, and you have purchased high grade media, then it may be an indicator that the media is in fact not what it was represented to be.

For critical system functions, any media duplicated is most assuredly tested with an analyzer to assure the media will work when needed.
