The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) is the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s (PRCA) championship event and is considered the world’s premier rodeo. Held in December at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, the Wrangler NFR is ProRodeo’s richest and most prestigious rodeo. At the conclusion of the Wrangler NFR, the sport’s world champions are determined based on season earnings in addition to earnings from the Wrangler NFR. Cowboys earn monies for their performances in each of the 10 rounds and the average. The Wrangler NFR showcases the world’s best cowboys and livestock and had a purse of $5.25 million in 2005, with more than $1.6 million paid to participating livestock.

Each December, the top 15 contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding qualify to compete at the Wrangler NFR. Qualification is based on season earnings from the ProRodeo Cowboys World Standings for that year.
